A person who meets the qualifications stated in the 「Higher Education Act」, and plans to engage in education or research·guidance of the professional field at educational institutions of higher than the college level or any of the equivalents

Eligibility criteria for application

You are eligible to apply for this visa if you are a person who is hired as a professor, an associate professor, an assistant professor, or a visiting professor in accordance with the KAIST law

Visa Type

You can apply for a single-entry visa valid for 3 months.
Periods of stay for this visa will be granted for up to 1 year.

① Visa Application Form (Form No. 17), passport, a photo in a standard format, fee
② A certificate of employment history or Degree
③ Employment Contract or Confirmation on the appointment as a professor

※ The head of Korean diplomatic missions abroad may request for additional documents depending on the condition of the country of residence/jurisdiction if it is deemed necessary for visa evaluation.

Eligibility criteria for application

You are eligible to apply for this visa if you are a person who plans to teach or research at a community college or higher, or an institution which is equivalent to the level of college, in accordance with the Higher Education Act.

② A degree certificate, or a certificate of employment history
③ An employment contract or a confirmation of the appointment of a professor

※ If a representative is hired, he/she must submit a Power of Attorney from an applicant, his/her employment certificate and A copy of ID Card.
※ The head of Immigration Office may request for additional documents if it is deemed necessary to review the purpose of entry, validity of an invitation, and qualification of an inviting organization or an invitee.

Eligibility criteria for application

You are eligible to apply for this visa if you are The head of a university (i.e. chancellor, or dean), a professor, associate professor, assistant professor, lecturer with concurrent posts, honorary professor, visiting scholar, or an exchange professor who plans to teach or research at a community college or above for at least 91 days.

1. A chancellor or dean refers to the head of a university who is hired by a prescribed procedure and oversees school affairs and faculties, and teaches students
2. A professor, associate professor, or assistant professor refers to an instructor whose qualification is acknowledged by the Human Resources Committee or Teacher’s Personnel Committee of a respective university, or who meets the requirements set forth as Article 16 of the Higher Education Act, and teaches and guides students and conduct academic research.
3. A lecturer with concurrent posts refers to a lecturer who meets the requirements set forth as Article 16 of the Higher Education Act and who has expertise in the relevant field
4. A honorary professor refers to a professor who has made remarkable achievements in education and academics ,and who has been designated by the enforcement decree of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology
5. A visiting scholar refers to a professor who meets the requirements set forth as Article 16 of the Higher Education Act (However, if the school hires him/her for a specific class, he/she does not have to meet the requirements.)
6. Exchange professor refers to a professor dispatched to a university in ROK from a foreign university in accordance with the exchange agreement between the two universities.

Visa Type

You can apply for a single-entry visa valid for 3 months.
Periods of stay will be granted for up to 1 year.

① Application form for Confirmation of Visa Issuance (Form No. 21), a copy of passport, a photo in a standard format
② A degree certificate and a certificate of employment history
③ An employment contract, or confirmation of prospective employment
④ Documents related to establishment of an inviting university
– A copy of Business Registration Certificate or a certified copy of unabridged Corporate Register
⑤ A copy of an agreement for an exchange professor to ROK, or a dispatch order (for eligible applicant only)

※ If a representative is hired, he/she must submit a Power of Attorney from an applicant, his/her employment certificate and A copy of ID Card.
※ The head of Immigration Office may request for additional documents if it is deemed necessary to review the purpose of entry, validity of an invitation, and qualification of an inviting organization or an invitee.

Eligibility criteria for application

You are eligible to apply for this visa if you are an advanced science and technology expert recommended by the Minister of Education, Science and Technology of ROK who plans to teach or research at an academic institution such as a community college or higher

1. A person with a doctoral degree in science, technology, engineering, or math.
2. A person with a master’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or math and at least 3 years of work experience in research and development of the field.
3. A professor of a field recognized as a new growth engine for the national development who is invited for the WCU project (a project to enhance research capacity of a university to world-class) operated by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of ROK.

Visa Type

You can apply for a multiple-entry visa valid for your period of stay.
Periods of stay will be granted for up to 5 years.

① Application form for Confirmation of Visa Issuance (Form No. 21), a copy of passport, a photo in a standard format
② An employment contract, or confirmation of prospective employment
③ An employment recommendation letter for an advanced science and technology worker.
– If you wish to work in Korean Free Economic Zone, you must submit an employment recommendation letter or a document proving the necessity of employment issued by the respective mayor or provincial governor.
④ A document relevant to the establishment of the host institution (A copy of Business Registration Certificate or a certified copy of unabridged Corporate Register)
⑤ A copy of an official document in regards to BK21, or a copy of an official document in regards to the WCU Project (a project to enhance university’s research capacity to a world-class level). (only for those applicable to this condition)
